Entertainment Insurance

All businesses need standard insurance coverages, such as general liability, property insurance for buildings and personal property, workers compensation and auto liability. But the entertainment industry including Motion Picture, TV, Live Entertainment, Music, Broadcasting, Publishing and Advertising have a unique set of exposures that are not covered by standard insurance.

Insurance coverages available in addition to the standard ones that may be needed are:

Cast Insurance  Provides coverage for additional or extra costs incurred in the completion of the film over and above the normal budget costs, occasioned by the death or disability through accident or sickness of any specifically scheduled artist, with various extension of this definition.  This is basically an extra expense and/or abandonment coverage.  A medical examination of those persons to be insured is normally required within 21 days prior to commencement of filming.
Pre-Production Indemnity  This insurance protects the production company in the event their incurred cost and expenses are tied to the subsequent unavailability of a contracted director or artist; it also covers extra expenses incurred in the event of death or disability of an insured artist or director during Pre-Production.  The policy terms and conditions are almost identical to those in the Film Producers Indemnity (Cast) Policy and a medical examination will be required prior to any sickness cover being given.  Extended Pre-Production Indemnity is normally required when the period of insurance is measured in months prior to filming rather than weeks.
Post Production Indemnity  This provides coverage similar to Cast Insurance for directors, editors and others during the Post-Production period.  It is needed when delays due to the disability or death of such persons would cause the Production Company to incur considerabile Extra Expenses in completing the film.
Negative Film, Videotape & Master Tape Floaters  Covers risks of physical loss of or damage to the negative film and indemnifies the insured for the extra expenses incurred in reshooting the lost or damage material, or for aborted costs in case of abandonment.
Faulty Stock, Cameras, Sound Equipment & Videotape Recorders  This is a buy-back to the Negative Floater, to include coverage for loss or damage caused by the following:  1. Fogging or the use of faulty materials, faulty cameras or videotape recorders or faulty sound equipment or soundtracks. 2. Faulty developing, editing or processing.  3. Cutting, physical editing, cueing or other laboratory work.  4. Accidental erasure of videotape recordings or soundtracks.  5. Accidental exposure to light.
Props, Sets & Wardrobe  This is special form property coverage providing for most causes of loss or damage worldwide Inland Marine Floater covering owned property and the property of others while used or to be used as props, sets or wardrobes in connection with the insured production.
Miscellaneous Rented Equipment (Cameras, Grip, etc.)  This includes coverage for camera, sound, grip, electrical, lighting, communications and musical instrument equipment, production locations equipment (fixed and mobile), recording equipment, theatrical property and all related property covering loss or damage worldwide on owned and rented equipment used or to be used in the insured production.
Scheduled Equipment  A policy for scheduled equipment is used to provide coverage for items not directly related to the production, but are integral to a site, such as trailers, property in trailers and other support type property, not directly used in the production.
Extra Expense Indemnity  When production equipment or property is damaged, extra expense coverage is available to reimburse the Production Company for any additional costs necessary to complete principal photography of an insured production due to the loss of, damage to or destruction of property to either props, sets or wardrobes or equipment used in connections with the insured production.  Coverage includes losses due to faulty generator operation and mechanical breakdown of cameras.
Automobile Physical Damage  Pays for damage to or destruction of mobile equipment vans, mobile studio units, cinemobiles, honey wagons, generators, portable dressing rooms and similar type vehicles.  Coverage applies to declared vehicles for amounts up to specified values or limits.  Coverage may also apply to motor vehicles owned by the insured or any rented private passenger cares, if specifically endorsed to the policy.
Third Party Property Damage  This provides protection for damage to both real and personal property and facilities utilized during production that is owned by others, and excluded from a General Liability policy.
Money & Securities  A simple broad form, low limit coverage for the theft or destruction of cash and bearing instruments such as checks, handled while on location as well as at home production locations.
Employee Dishonesty  A broad form, low limit cover for those special few employees entrusted with the handling of funds and other valuable property for the production manager.
Producers Liability - Errors and Omissions  This coverage provides protection against third party liability claims and suits for: 1. Invasion or infringement of or interference with the right of privacy or publicity.  2. Infringement of copyright or trademark.  3.Libel, slander or other forms of defamation. 4.  Unauthorized use of titles, formats, ideas, characters, plots, performances of artists or other performers or other program material embodied in the insured production. 5.  Breach of contract.  All applications are subject to review and clearance by legal counsel for the insurance carrier. (See full definitions list for further information.
Hired Aircraft (Liability and Hull)  Covering fixed wing aircraft and helicopters owned and./or non-owned or hired for use in the production.
Hired Watercraft (Liability and Hull)  Covering owned or rented watercraft used in the production including Charter's Liability, Protection & Indemnity coverage and Hull Physical Damage.
Guild/Union Accident Coverage  This is a blanket policy that covers the contract requirements for accidental death, dismemberment and/or disability to all production company members provided for by the motion picture and television guilds. (See full definition list for further information.)
